Ensuring Success: A Deeper Dive into the Schematic Design Phase

From the Discovery Phase (Check out the article here), we move onto the second phase of our Proven Process, Schematic Design. This phase begins after the proposal is signed by both parties. This pivotal phase encompasses the initial draft presentation, finalization of floor plan design, and crafting front-facing perspectives, all while upholding a core principle of ego-free collaboration among our designer and clients. In this phase, our clients are introduced to a dedicated Design Project Manager who will be the primary point of contact during the whole design stage. In this article we will dive deeper into each of these steps to reveal a comprehensive framework essential to having a successful project and a satisfied client.

The journey begins with an initial design meeting, typically held at the project location, where our lead designer delves deep into understanding the wants, needs, and the complete scope of the client’s project. This immersive approach allows us to gain invaluable insights while our designer gets a firsthand feel for the views and ambiance of the lot. By ensuring a thorough comprehension of the client’s vision and leveraging the unique characteristics of the property, we set the stage for a collaborative and inspired design process that aims to exceed the client’s expectations.

Initial Draft Presentation

After the designer works their magic, we unveil the initial
draft presentation of the floorplan. Typically conducted in-person at our
office, this pivotal moment can understandably induce stress for our clients as
they navigate the intricacies of deciphering their desires from the floorplan.
Fear not, for we stand ready to guide our clients through each room, explaining the flow and functionality envisioned. While some
wish list items may encounter hurdles due to regulatory constraints or spatial
limitations, our dedicated designers spare no effort in crafting solutions that
encapsulate the essence of our client’s aspirations. Throughout the
consultation, our team diligently records any adjustments necessary to refine
the plan to perfection.

No Ego Process

At Davis Bews Design Group, we adhere to a No Ego Process,
recognizing the significant investment our clients make in their projects. Our
objective is to ensure our client’s complete satisfaction with our design
solutions. We approach every project with humility and a commitment to
listening attentively to our client’s needs and preferences. By prioritizing
open communication, collaboration, and a client-centric mindset, we strive to
exceed expectations and deliver results that resonate with our client’s vision
and aspirations.

Finalization of Floor Plan

Following adjustments, the designer unveils the final floor
plan. Depending on the project’s complexity, it may undergo several iterations
before reaching this stage, or swiftly progress from the initial draft
presentation to the approved design within a matter of weeks. Regardless of the
timeline, our commitment at Davis Bews Design Group remains the same: ensuring
our client’s complete satisfaction with the design.

Front-Facing Perspective

Once the floor plan is finalized, we begin crafting the
front elevation, providing our clients with their first glimpse of their future
home from a frontal perspective. A pivotal aspect in expediting this phase is
grasping the stylistic direction our clients want to achieve. To streamline
this process, we encourage collaboration and welcome clients to share examples
from sources such as Pinterest or magazines, serving as inspiration. This
collaborative approach ensures that the front elevation aligns seamlessly with
our client’s envisioned aesthetic, facilitating a harmonious transition from floorplan
to reality.
